Ministry within ILC and in the Community

Immanuel Lutheran Church of Saratoga
Ministry Team’s Goals
The Ministry Team works with members to discover their giftedness before God, develop those gifts to their fullest potential, and implement their gifts in the service of others — inside the church as well as out in the community. The Ministry Team oversees a number of service programs (below), including the collection of food, clothing, and books. Donation bins for food, clothing, and books are located outside the church office. Members prepare and serve meals monthly in area homeless shelters.

Some of our Community Ministries

Habitat for Humanity

FOOD COLLECTION: We collect and deliver food to five distribution centers in the San Jose area. We accept any food items. A major focus is food enjoyed by children and baby food. Produce picked from fruit trees is acceptable, but no fruit that has fallen.

BOOKS FOR KIDS: Children’s books are collected and delivered to four family centers in the San Jose area.

CLOTHING PROJECT: Clothing is collected all year for homeless men, women and children; in cold weather, we emphasize coats and blankets. Kitchen items such as pots and pans, dishes and linens are also collected and delivered to area agencies.

LAYETTE PROJECT: We collect and donate baby clothes, diapers and supplies for newborns of women in poverty.

LION’S CLUB PROJECTS: We collect and deliver glasses and cases, lenses, cell phones and chargers. We will also accept children’s backpacks and suitcases with wheels.

HYGIENE KITS: We assemble 200 hygiene kits twice/year for delivery to the homeless. For the kits, we collect toiletry items such as soap, shampoo, tooth brushes and tooth paste, wash clothes, combs, etc.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES: We collect and deliver school supplies to low income children on the East Side of San Jose.

MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS: ILC prepares and serves meals once/month to the homeless at various community agencies. Help is always needed in preparing the food at the church, serving at the shelters and preparing cupcakes for the meal. One meal is prepared on the first Sunday afternoon of the month and the other on the third afternoon of the following month. If you would like to help, please call JoAn Lambert at 867-6237.
